That's like the equivalent to half the quality of 1/2tape. So in other words? Cassette tape was the mp3format of its day.

Even the cassette tape has much lower sound quality than the original 2track 1/2inch tape reel to reel. That's why they invented the small cassette tape. That being said? Would you want to walk around with a reel to reel machine with headphones to listen to music? No. Back in my hay day? Music was recorded in 2inch wide tape.

It's only intended for portable devices with limited storage capabilities. So Harrison being the professionals that they are? Did guys like you a favor from making that mistake. 96k? 24bit resolution? Is more than double that. You're only capturing 320bits per second. More subtone and more transparent highs in the order of crossover. 96k 24bit and floating 32bit? Capture between 20htz-40kilohertz. File conversion doesn't magically make the file sound better with a wider dynamic range. When you export into a higher format? You're taking a snapshot of a lower resolution sound file, and still only capturing low bit rate. But when you start exporting multiple copies into and converting them to a standard 44.1 16bit wav file for master mixdown? It's the equivalent of taking a picture of a high definition photograph useing an old Polaroid camera. Yes it does take a load off of Computer processing because the file is much much more smaller than wav.

Yes mp3 320bitrate does have exceptional quality hands down. Ok here's the Rotten truth about the matter. Studio One, Reaper, Cubase, Ableton and on.

It's a poor thing for a software house that need to rise a standard for music user. The only reason I can think is you want to save little money about mp3 software rights. There may be a thousand reasons why I should I use mp3 files from my data library. There is no reason to do today an audio software that does not support mp3 standard. Yes, that's all my opinion, but one formed by my 25+ years of experience as an audio engineer. But that is of course their decision I'll use Mixbus either way. For those cases x42 has given a workaround, and as far as I'm concerned Harrison shouldn't waste any time or money on mp3 import when there are far more important issues to work on. Mixbus is not a media player it is a serious DAW, and, in my humble opinion, it is counterproductive to use a serious DAW for serious work but then import mp3 as source material, unless that is the only format in which the source is available (like historical recordings pulled from 78's or wax cylinders).

Use a format converter like sox on Linux or AudioFile Engineering's Sample Manager ( ) on Mac OS X (or whatever on Windows I don't use Windows for audio, so I don't know what those choices are). MP3 export, on the other hand, is very useful. I use Mixbus because I care about quality importing an MP3 at any bit rate and then processing it in any shape or form will create potentially massive distortions. To import mp3 is a BASIC CORE function.Īs far as I'm concerned, MPEG 1 Layer 3 audio import is worse than useless. I want IMPORT mp3 files as all others audio software.
